I am a huge fan of high energy and lifting my spirits to an all time high, and I love surrounding myself with upbeat, enthusiastic people. However, after Tony Robbins Unleash Your Power Within (UPW) event last week, I hit an all time emotional down fall.
How did this happen?
After spending four days of peak state, spending 12-16 hour days jumping, priming, yelling, hugging total strangers, high five galore, walking on fire and meeting the most amazing people on the planet, I felt like my heart was taken out of my chest and replaced with a total, well let’s just say, void. Not to mention my nose dripping for days and I have a lovely tissue wipe scare under my wee little nose. The point is for six days after the event I wasn’t sure whether I was Arthur or Marther.
So what happened?
Comedown is what happened. ‘Comedown’ refers to the side-affect of becoming high after a period of taking recreational drugs when your body is trying to process the substances you’ve taken. In a room full of 6000 people however, and I can only speak for myself, I wasn’t on any recreational drug. Far from it. I was high on the energy Tony Robbins created for us. There were loud uplifting music, some Strategic Intervention where Tony had us closing our eyes and taking us back to a memory in our childhood. I thought it was a powerful exercises because it’s not everyday you think of your childhood and realize something you never realized before.
The momentum was huge and the fact that no-one was really concerned about what others thought of themselves was even better. There were no judging, we all had one thing in common and that was to find something deep within our selves that we never thought we had. We were all there for growth. We all have resilience, power, and untapped potential that we are yet to unleash.
Tony spoke of many things including some personal stories he shared with us about his life. I found him to be genuinely focused wanting to help as many people as he possibly can.
The real power during the four day event was our ability to push our selves to the absolute limit! And our ability to tap into our own energy source. Energy is everything and determines the results we get in our life. For instance, if you have low energy you are not going to put in 100% effort towards what it is you are trying to achieve. On the other hand if you had high energy and you were in peak state, your efforts, decisions and results will be dictated by how you feel and as a result you will achieve the results that are more favorable.
This taught me that it was time to lift my standard and aim for “outstanding” results rather than settle for just good. The minute we raise our standards, we are often required to stretch our selves. This is the part where growth occurs. Sounds simple and easy right? unless you are practicing to change your state on a regular basis, it will be hard to reprogram our 2 million year old brain. We have so many conditioned behaviors we need to eliminate and recognize prior to overriding our limiting beliefs.
You see the things that you don’t like about your self are not who you really are, they are your patterns. If I were to ask you the 2 most consistent thoughts you have what would they be?
What do you feel when you think about those thoughts?
I’d like for you to notice that these thoughts are not your thoughts, they were made up by your 2 million year old brain. You can live without these self limiting beliefs however, the first step is to recognize that these thoughts are not yours and these thoughts are a reflection of what is going on in your environment. As Tony says, “If you tell yourself a lie long enough, you’ll start to believe it”.
So how do we change our state?
We move!! That’s how.. for instance if our posture is slumped our physiology reinforces negative feelings. As Tony says, “Motion creates emotion”. So changing your physiology changes your mental state and breaking your negative patterns. Positive physiology therefore leads to greater emotions. This is the key of becoming free from that sad, unhappy place. This is what I have been working on for the last few days to pull myself back in alignment with who I was and why I do what I do. But I MUST repeat this on a daily basis if I am to break the cycle. Having said that after being on such a high for 4 days, I have to except my low state without self sabotaging myself or feeling bad for not being on a high all the time, as this is all part of the growth process.
